Newport Super Stars
Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) 2010-2011
Newport Stars
What is PBIS?
PBIS is a school wide program in which teachers, students, parents, and all staff work together to maintain a safe learning community by focusing on positive behavior. Newport administrators, teachers, and staff have identified positive behavior expectations and will take the time to teach the expectations to every student.
At Newport School we expect students to …
1. Take responsibility
2. Respect yourself and
others
3. Stay safe
Students will learn what it means to follow these expectations in all areas of school, which includes classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, on buses, in the cafeteria, and on the playground. With PBIS, students will know exactly what is expected of them wherever they are at school.
Student Recognition and Rewards
Students who take responsibility to behave positively will be recognized and rewarded.
1. SuperStar tickets are a positive behavior reinforcement indicator. They will be handed out randomly to students by any adult at Newport School who witnesses positive behavior. Students will sign their name on their SuperStar tickets and hand them in to their teacher.
2. Weekly drawings will be held at the end of each week from the SuperStars that have been earned during the week. The name of one student from each classroom will be announced over the intercom and they will receive a small prize.
3. Monthly drawings will also be held as Newport students and teachers come together at the end of each month to celebrate their positive behavior at an all-school assembly. One student from each grade level will be drawn and will receive a special Newport Super Star Reward.
